Getting stuck with a dead battery anywhere can be a serious inconvenience when you need to get somewhere. No need to worry though, the battery experts at our service department created a guide that will help you safely jump-start your vehicle and get you back on the road! If you do not feel comfortable jump-starting your vehicle by yourself, you can always call us at (866) 574-4228 the Serra Honda Grandville Service Center, we're happy to take care of you and your vehicle.

Before the step-by-step instructions, take note a few important things:
  • The assisting vehicle and the disabled vehicle SHOULD NOT touch
  • DO NOT take out the dead battery - this can damage your electrical system
  • You should always look over your owner's manual before doing anything big on vehicle, like jump-starting your battery

How to Jump a Dead Battery:
  • Make sure both vehicles are turned off with the parking brake on.
  • Also, make sure everything that could drain the power is turned off, like lights & electronic devices.
  • Clear away any terminal covers or corrosion from the battery cables before connecting them.
  • Attach the red positive (+) cable to the disabled vehicle's red positive (+) battery terminal. Check the connection to make sure it's secure.
  • Then attach the opposite end of the red positive (+) cable to the helping vehicle's red positive (+) battery terminal. Again, check the connection to make sure it's secure.
  • Now attach the black negative (-) clamp to the helping vehicle's black negative terminal.
  • The other end of the black negative (-) cable needs to be connected to a large, unpainted metal surfaces that's in the engine area, but away from the battery and carburetor/fuel injection system. These cables should be nowhere near any moving parts.
  • The next step is to start the assisting vehicle, and then start-up the disabled vehicle. You'll want to run both of them for about three minutes.
  • Now disconnect the cables in the opposite order they were attached, but keep the disabled vehicle running. You can close both of the vehicles' hoods.
  • Have the jump-started vehicle run for several minutes before driving.
